Healing Our Spirits, Part III

“Physically, she told me, “Jack experienced no more of the intense pain from his cancer which was remarkable, but the truly amazing thing was that he was finally able to talk about our son,” I’ll call him Mark.

Fran and Jack’s son, Mark, had died tragically in an auto accident many years previous. The memory of the loss was just too painful for Jack and he’d erased their son from his memory and would never speak of him.

“After his session with you,” said Fran, “Jack spoke openly and lovingly of Mark with no trace of the former grief he’d born for so many years. We both enjoyed sharing our warm memories and our love for Mark. It felt very completing to finally talk openly about Mark’s death. I feel we honored our son’s memory and the love we all shared.”

Fran then told me how Jack had experienced a ‘falling out’ with his brother, I’ll call him Paul, many years before and how they hadn’t spoken in more than thirty years. Jack initiated a reconnection with his brother, Paul, after his session with me. Paul had responded by coming to be with his brother, Jack.

“Jack and Paul spent their final moments together in relaxed conversation, sharing boyhood stories and laughing,” Fran told me, and “Paul was holding Jack’s hand as he passed away.”

Fran concluded her story with, “When my Jack opened to having a healing session with you, he was opening his heart to heal those old wounds he’d been nursing for so many years, and God bless him he got his healing.”

I thanked Fran for sharing her incredible story with me. It is my feeling that both Fran and Jack experienced genuine healing. I was honored to facilitate what they were open to receiving.

After many years of serving as a channel of healing for people I have realized healing is available to each of us in each moment if we are open to it. Most of the time we resist it and push it away. We allow our judgments, the interpretations we give to our life experiences to block us from allowing the healing power of love into our lives.

Each of us could be plugged into our source for a steady supply of joy juice, yet stubbornly we resist it, refusing to be nourished from God’s infinite supply.

Fran’s story reaffirmed my role as a healing arts practitioner, that of being a witness to other’s pain and suffering without identifying them with it, but rather to see their infinite capacity for transformation and healing and mirror that back to them instead.

The absolute peace and acceptance of whatever is, without the need to struggle against it or to change it, is truly a worthy practice!

Keeping Christmas Spirit Alive Christmas Just Isn’t The Same Without Santa Claus!

Holidays may come and go but some holidays, like Christmas, should never change. Most folks have a favorite holiday and for many it is Christmas. The festivities, shopping, and decorating get the best of all of us but Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without Santa Claus stopping by for a quick visit to share the true meaning of Christmas, giving.

Although Christmas can be a busy time of year, we must not forget to go back to basics. Santa’s kind and giving spirit touches everyone and he is able to bring back the never-ending nostalgia of childhood for adults too. As adults, we try to keep Santa Claus alive for our children to keep the innocence of their youth as long as possible. The smiles we see on our children’s faces when they sit on Santa’s knee and the anticipation of Christmas day allow us to somehow live vicariously through the eyes of our children. We may be adults but we’re still a little kid at heart.

Our children are growing ever so fast and smarter by the minute. It seems that their innocence is lost so much sooner these days. But that doesn’t mean they don’t need to be entertained and sheltered in Santa’s comfort zone for a little while longer. Eventually your child will ask if Santa Claus really exists. Like most parents we will try to keep Santa’s spirit alive for as long as we can. In our efforts to keep the joyous mystery of Santa Claus alive, we sometimes recreate jolly old Saint Nick at home by dressing up as Santa Claus. Or you may even do the annual mall visit with Santa. This year you may need more than just a Santa Claus suit or visit to the local mall to impress your children. This year you could give them even more by sending a Letter From Santa.

As parents we know that Santa Claus is a representation of the real meaning of Christmas, the spirit of giving. Christmas is ultimately about being able to give from the heart and not just giving material things. Santa Claus history reveals the story of Saint Nicholas, a religious bishop, who was well known for his generosity towards children and poor. It is believed that Saint Nicholas entered homes through a window and left gifts for the children as they slept. During the Christmas season, we continue this self-less tradition of giving that Saint Nicholas began. By keeping the Santa Claus spirit alive our children learn the value of giving through special moments that make a lifetime of treasured memories.
